A Word About the Paranormal Activity Movie

I've still been keeping track of stats for this site in my absence and awhile back there was quite a huge jump in traffic, this was due to increased interest in a movie known as Paranormal Activity, this site and the movie are not related in any way apart from the similarities in title.

Was quite interesting receiving comments and messages from people thinking this was the movies website, it seemed they took the first result they stumbled upon and assumed or accepted without question that they must be where they were looking for, it's gotta say something about the nature of the internet.

Well, the movies OK, but I found it quite frustrating, they have paranormal shit happening to them, they have evidence to deny any doubts they may be having, why didn't they go to a church or something, would have been more proactive than what they did.

I still have my childhood illusions intact for this movie, it scared me so much back then I only ever saw it once and judging by the trailer I think I know why The Gatehad such an impact on me, the special effects look amazing, especially for a film released in 1987.

Horror Trailers: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Screw that other weekly themed post of mine, TWWIR, that was stupid, mainly because time wasted is boring.

Something I know I can stick to is as simple as posting a trailer for a movie that affected me when I was younger. This weeks trailer is for a movie that was responsible for my most terrifying nights sleep ever. I was about 12 when I saw this movie, I had no idea what I was in for and when it was time for bed, well, I was petrified under the covers all night long, drifting in and out of sleep with visions of chainsaws and a big fella wearing my face.

And that movie was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, before seeing this the likes of Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees filled my nightmares, but they had nothing on how real The Texas Chainsaw Massacre could really be, just a bunch of sadistic nutters that could really be living next door and that's what scared me most, the realization that people like this exist. The news made more sense for me after seeing The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Night of the Army of Blade Runner

Howdy y'all, been a bit slack, but frankly I just haven't seen anything worth posting. Been working on a few videos in that time and you should get a look at my mug soon enough. Editing video takes so dang long, I have to render my HD video files just to be able to edit them together in a workable fashion, then I have to render them again, rendering takes ages.

On another note I've been doing some online shopping, something I have never done. I was looking for props for a project I'm working on, but my head started to hurt after seeing the options available, so I'm just gonna hunt what I need down on foot. I bought some DVDs instead.

I bought three DVDs in total, first is one of my favorite movies of all time, Army of Darkness. Never get tired of this cheesy, horror comedy.


Next I got a movie I saw a lot when I was younger, loved it but haven't seen it in a very long time, The Return of the Living Dead, another horror comedy, great costumes and props in this movie.


And the last DVD I got for the reason I can never remember properly, I know the story, I know what it's about, it's like the specifics get wiped from my mind, I guess that's a good thing, keeps the movie fresh, it's Blade Runner.

Scariest Horror Scenes Ever - Countdown to Halloween

I must have missed a day, maybe I was on the cusp of the seventh day, so now it's the the sixth day. For the sixth day until Halloween we have the first part of the scariest horror movie scenes ever.

More than a few of these kept my eyes under the covers at night, especially "It". And "The Ring" was unexpected.

WARNING: If you haven't seen some of the horror movies featured it may ruin the whole movie for ya, that, and it may not be suitable for minors.

If you can't tell, I may have had a few or 15.

Nosferatu - Coutdown to Halloween

Judging by the counter to the right there's 8 days left until Halloween, about 7 or 6 days for me, but I ain't doing this for the kiwis.

Each day up until Halloween I'll be posting something creepy, spooky, scary to get into the Halloween spirit.

Today we have the classic silent film Nosferatu, based kind of on Bram Stoker's Dracula, which wasn't entirely allowed. It managed to survive despite copies of it being ordered destroyed as a result of legal rulings.

The rat faced Orlock used to scare the hell out of me and there's something about the film that still creeps me out, it's black and white and silent, something I'm sure a lot of us aren't used to.

As with Night of the Living Dead, Nosferatu is in the public domain, download it, do as you please with it, it's all legal.

Seeing that Halloween is fast approaching I thought I'd get into the spirit and post something spooky everyday for the 9 or 10 days leading up to it. Halloween isn't really that big down here, though judging from the stores trying to it force it on us you wouldn't think so.

Anyway below is the classic George A. Romero film "Night of the Living Dead". This is the original version from 1968 which is now in the public domain, so feel free to download it in its glorious 4GB version or stream it below.

Spot, Capture, Escape and Evade

These are a little old but still great entertainment. I first saw the S.P.O.T one and thought to myself what the hell is this, so I checked out the users other videos, saw this sites address in one of them, went to it, then bam mystery solved.

Turns out they were part of a viral campaign for the movie "Hellboy II," looks like there was an alternate reality game going on as well, wish I had of known about that one earlier.

Return of the Ghostbusters - The Lost Marks

Shingles man, this has been in my bookmarks for who knows how long, I've almost deleted it many times but the idea of watching a new Ghostbusters movie was to much to pass up, though it's not actually a proper Ghostbusters movie, it's a fan movie, but don't let that worry you it's actually pretty good.

It's a feature length movie by the name of Return of the Ghostbusters and it kind of reminds me of a Troma film, it's full of cheesy moments, acting, dialogue, though none of it's bad. The story revolves around the Denver chapter of the Ghostbusters where they have to stop an archaeologist from using an artifact known as the Amulet of Anubis to open a portal to the other side.

Funky story and they really pulled it off, especially for an entirely volunteer affair.

The only disappointing thing for me is that after watching this one I figured out it was part two, the first one being Freddy VS Ghostbusters, dang there goes another bookmark back into my browsers sidebar.

Bad Taste - Horror

Bad Taste, the hack n slash, gross em out, trashy cult classic from New Zealands Peter Jackson. The film centers around human eating butt headed aliens and the attempts of the New Zealand National Air and Space Defense League to foil the aliens plans to turn us earthlings into fast food. What makes the movie so great is its trashiness, it's gore and it's over the top approach. It took like 4 years of weekends to shoot with pretty much no bugget to work with, all they had to go on was their dedication to the project and I think what is presented is pure gold.

I haven't seen Bad Taste in awhile but I used to watch it a lot as a kid, mainly for the reason that it was shot largely around where I grew up, it felt special to see my hang outs in a movie.

The alien ship is actually gear homestead, I used to skip school sometimes and hang out there eating passion fruit that grew around the house, along with more rebelious behavior. I used to walk along those cliffs a lot as well, pretty much every scene in the movie I've been to.

Just another movie I've gotta watch again, though I know I won't be disappointed in it like I was with rewatching The Unholy, Bad Taste really doesn't exist to impress it's here for an experience.

Ghost Hunters Meet Hellboy

Pretty funny shiz right here, Ghost Hunters meet Hellboy, there's almost some common ground here.

I'm really looking forward to Hellboy 2: The golden Army, even if the story sucks the art direction looks amazing, I so need to see Pans Labyrinth.

I really want to swear from now on, though still keep it family friendly so I'm getting inventive with it. I'm no writer and swear words make writing a whole lot easier, I could use fancy words, but half the time I know what they mean it's just I don't know where to use em. Mind you not a lot more.

The Horror - The Unholy

"Ranty reviews/thoughts on horror movies that scared me as a kid in the 80s.



The Unholy is the reason why I try not to watch movies again that awed me, scared me and made an impact on me as a kid, it's the reason why I haven't seen "Close Enounters of the Third Kind" or "Blade Runner" in over 20 years even though I know they're great movies, I just don't want to be disappointed.

I'll spare you all a synopsis of the movie itself, I haven't seen it in ten years, imdb will do a great job at filling you in.

I've seen "The Unholy" twice in my life, the first time round I'd forgotten most of the movie, all that mattered and all I remembered was the demon dog at the end, it remained the most horrific movie monster I'd ever seen, well up until I watched it again ten or so years later.

I remember renting it again expecting the greatest movie and monster ever conceived, it didn't quite roll out how I'd expected it to, the movie isn't that bad at all, it just couldn't hold up to what I had imagined as a child. The Unholy turned out the be very dull with moments of interesting ideas finished off with a monster that would make McDonalds toys look quality.

The unholy is the reason I haven't seen The Omen since the age of 7 or 8, why I haven't watched Rosemary's Baby, 2001: A Space Odyssey and many other classics in years, I just don't want my childhood memories of the films shattered. Though I think it's about time I started watching these movies again, I imagine it'll be like watching most of them for the first time, I just hope I'm not disappointed.
